We are pleased that you are interested in the University of Connecticut Integrated General Surgery Residency Program. Prospective applicants should click on the “Application” button.

Our residency training program starts with the best qualities of a university program combined with superb community based training. Our diverse clinical experience includes a high volume of operative cases with exposure to a large faculty. We remain on the cutting edge in minimally invasive surgery. We pride ourselves on adult learning and innovations in education.

Our curriculum includes mandatory "pagers off" attendance at teaching sessions. Since 1998, we have been continuously reducing resident work hours, so that you may enjoy the natural beauty of central Connecticut.

So how well are we doing? In the past five years, 85 percent passed the qualifying examination (RRC standard = 75 to 84 percent) and 88% passed the certifying examination on the first try. Our attrition rate is about 10% (national average for Surgery is >20 percent).

Central Connecticut is a region of natural beauty with dense woodlands and several rivers. Hartford is about halfway between New York and Boston, reaping cultural benefits from both places. If our program sounds good to you, we welcome you to visit at any time.
